SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Cybersecurity Intern will play a key role in further protecting our computer and networking systems from potential cyber-attacks. They will actively participate in designing, planning, and deployment of sophisticated security countermeasures and technical controls.
The Cybersecurity Intern will assist with the development and maintenance of the Office of The Illinois Attorney General (OAG) compliance and risk management programs. In addition, they will identify, prioritize, and communicate vulnerabilities and anomalous activity across all assets in the enterprise, populate/maintain asset tagging in vulnerability assessment system for accurate risk assessment, and develop visualizations to provide metrics related to vulnerability management.
The Cybersecurity Intern will also participate in a range of security assessment activities, assist in security incident investigations and response, develop cyber hygiene educational materials for end user training, and evaluate or implement new security tools and technologies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be working towards a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, IT Security, Information Systems Security, Network Technologies, or other related fields. This position requires general knowledge of security monitoring tools, anti-virus, networking basics, Windows, Linux, and Apple platforms; and familiarity with Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, and other modern workplace technology platforms.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with the ability to self-start, prioritize, multi-task, with a "can-do" attitude. Collaborative personality, able to quickly build positive relationships with IT and non-IT stakeholders, external partners, and the public. The ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, and decision-making skills with limited information, be action and results-oriented with the ability to overcome obstacles, able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment, and to complete assignments in a timely manner with limited or no supervision.
Preference will be given undergraduate or graduate students looking for an internship to gain experience. Candidates must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours a week. Please note that this internship is unpaid.
